Christian Aid Week 2021

the e-envelope  challenge!

This year Christian Aid week runs from the 10th – 16th May. Due to COVID protocols, and for the second year running it is inappropriate to undertake door-to-door collections. This means that Christian Aid may suffer a loss of income to undertake its vital ministry to address issues of poverty and injustice, support development and combat climate change.

Consequently, it falls to churches and individual Christians to respond.

Emmanuel, along with other churches in West Wickham, is offering to collect donations and pass these to Christian Aid. I have set up on behalf of Emmanuel a Christian Aid e-envelope to enable people to give directly, with the possibility of CA claiming the Gift Aid. The e-envelope may be accessed by clicking here: e-envelope | Christian Aid Week

or by typing the following:

Alternatively, you may send a cheque to our Treasurer, Ian Scott, or leave a donation in an envelope marked Christian Aid in church on Sundays 2nd, 9th, 16th or 23rd May. By giving through the e-envelope scheme or by making a donation via church, you will enable us to total up all donations from Emmanuel.

Christian Aid Week is usually run ecumenically, so this year it is planned to announce a total for funds raised from all churches in West Wickham at the Ecumenical Evening Service hosted by Emmanuel at 6pm on Sunday 23rd May.

The e-envelope invited me to set a target, so I put the ambitious target of £1000. The June edition of Emmanuel Life will record whether we reached our target.

To aid your giving, it may be helpful to know that the Mission Committee’s annual Summer Fair on The Green to raise money for TWAM (Tools with a Mission) has been postponed from the summer due to COVID regulations, and to give greater surety to the planning. Instead, it is proposed to hold the fair on Sunday 12th September. More news will be made available in due course.
