Film: Whisky Galore

Film: Whisky GaloreTuesday, January 26th at 7.30 pm.

Join us in the Scottish Isles for an illicit wee dram. Adapted from a novel by Compton MacKenzie and directed by Alexander MacKendrick, “Whisky Galore” is one of the funniest of the legendary Ealing Comedies. With a fabulous cast – Basil Radford, Joan Greenwood, James Robertson Justice and Gordon Jackson – it tells a story, inspired by a real-life wartime incident in the waters of the Outer Hebrides – of how the folk of the (fictional) Isle of  Todday dealt with 50,000 cases of booze on a stricken vessel and the inevitable Customs and Excise officers who, not surprisingly, did not share the islanders’ ideas. An extremely funny film – one of the best loved British movies evoking a warm-hearted nostalgia for more innocent times
