Easter 2019 at Emmanuel

Our Easter celebrations get underway on Palm Sunday evening (14th April) with Palm Sunday Praise – a service of readings, anthems and hymns for the start of Holy Week. It has always been a favourite service of mine. Do come if you can.

On Maundy Thursday (18th April) we hold our joint URC Communion service at 8.00pm. This year the service is at our sister church at Elmers End.

This year on Good Friday instead of the usual Churches Together in West Wickham Walk of Witness and open air service at the Swan there will be several “stations” in the High Street where dramatic readings telling the various aspects of the Good Friday story can be heard. Hot Cross Buns will be distributed. We meet as usual for prayers at St Mark’s at 10.00am and there will be a joint service at St Francis at 11.00am. Children’s activities in St Francis’ Hall.

On Easter Saturday (20th April) there will be the traditional Easter Egg Hunt for children and families at Emmanuel. The Easter Garden will be prepared at Messy Church on 7th April.

Then on Easter Sunday itself there will be a celebration of Holy Communion at 8.00am followed by our Family Easter Breakfast. Our Easter Family Service will take place at 9.30am and also includes the Sacrament of Holy Communion. The earlier time is so I can get to Elmers End to lead their Easter worship at 11.00am. The Easter evening service is at 6.30pm.

On Easter Sunday please bring a flower to decorate the Easter Cross.

“You are looking for Jesus the Nazarene, who was crucified. He has risen! He is not here.” (Mark 16:6)
