Ready steady cook competition

On Sunday 15th November four Cubs, Elliott, Evelyn, Aiden and Ben along with Baggie, represented 5th West Wickham in the Bromley district Ready Steady cook competition.

The Cubs were better organised than Baggie as she forgot matches to light the cookers and couldn’t find any washing up bowls so the Cubs had to make do with buckets instead!

4cubsThe competition follows the format of the TV programme whereby you are given some basic ingredients and you can items from the pantry. The Cubs were given chicken, potato, carrots, peppers, onions, eggs and chocolate.

The Cubs chose to add stock, rice, mushroom, tomatoe, flour, strawberry and bananas  a strange combination but just what we needed

Two of the Cubs had no real experience of cooking but quickly got to grips with peel and grating potatoe, chopping onions and whisking egg whites.  They were soon cooking, making a mess and having great fun. Team work was important as well and they worked hard all morning.

The meal presented to the judges was for starter a potato rosti with spicy salsa, chicken and vegetable risotto for main course and a desert of American pancakes with strawberry, banana and drizzled with melted chocolate.

Despite not winning the Cubs had a great morning and I look forward to hearing what else the cook up in the kitchen.
