Cub camp 2015

On Saturday 4th July at 8:30am the Cubs started gathering at Downe Scout Camp for our annual camp with the hope that the sun would shine all weekend.

The first thing to do was to ensure the “Baggies bucket” was full of goodies to keep both the Cubs and the leaders happy ! The Cubs were split into two groups for their morning activities of archery and the climbing wall. ArcheryMany of the Cubs made it to the top of the wall and rung the bell with pride and more managed to hit a bullseye on the archery targets. Even the dads who came along to help enjoyed watching in the sunshine.

Once lunch was over the Cubs got to practice their tent pitching skills they had learnt the week before, then laying their beds out before some free time in the field and woods surrounding the site. The next activity was swimming at Biggin Hill pool which meant a short hike across the fields, luckily nobody forgot their trunks this year. The pool was quite refreshing after the hike and at least all the Cubs were clean before the hike back to the campsite where fish or sausage and chips awaited!

The chance to practice their firefighting skills were tested that evening as we built a campfire to cook “bananas in pyjamas” or bananas stuffed with a mars bar! Yummy! For those cubs who still had some energy a “short” hike was organised whilst others snuck off to bed to get some well deserved sleep!

You would have thought with all that activity the Cubs would need to be woken up for their breakfast but the bird song and the pitter patter of rain woke them bright and early. Despite the rain we managed to get a camp fire going and filled up with cereal, sausage, bacon, eggs and, rolls all washed down with fruit juice.

Whilst the rain continued it didn’t stop the Cubs enjoying some rifle shooting and exploring the badger set before lunch was served and the parents arrived.

Many thanks to the parents who came along and helped with activities, hikes, tent pitching, washing up, packing up, making meals and just generally being supportive. Without you all it would not be possible fur us to take the Cubs away for the weekend.

Akela, Baggie and Chil (aka Debbie, Jeanette and Hilary) – see you in September
