On the evening of the 10th of May we held our annual general meeting which was quite well attended. The formal part of the meeting was kept to a minimum and we quickly got on with playing favourite pieces of music and some comedy items introduced by several of the attendees.
A huge thanks is due to Derek Richmond and Jack Beeson whose technical expertise brought the whole event to life and it proved a good way to get to know just a little bit more about the contributors as well as being able to enjoy a truly varied entertainment. Thanks are also due to those who took the trouble to search out their favourites from their collection of CDs.
Sadly, the mainly long serving members of the committee have, after careful thought, decided that the time has come to disband the Fellowship in its present form largely due to the difficulty in finding high quality speakers. Any volunteers with fresh ideas willing to take up the reins will, however, be welcome.
On the evening of Tuesday 12th of April for 8 o’clock in the Hewitt room we will be having a visit from another magician with local connections namely Dominick Zwolinski. As this is a professional engagement, we would suggest a slightly higher contribution of £3 per head for this event. … Continue reading Dominick Zwolinski
Our annual visit from the South London Fellowship Band on the evening of Friday 11th March was, as usual, a happy occasion and, thanks to the Band’s generosity, raised some useful extra funds for Emmanuel to use at its discretion. Conducted by Darrell Scholes Entrance is free (there will be a retiring collection) … Continue reading South London Fellowship Band Concert

Synagogue visit – a personal view I have always been impressed by the contribution made by Jewish people to our Western culture – thinking particularly of their writers, humour and how much duller our lives would have been were it not for the energy and drive of the Hollywood movie moguls. My knowledge of Jewish religious practices … Continue reading Synagogue visit
The Men’s Fellowship held their annual general meeting on the evening of 12th May. This effectively recognised the continuation of its existing structure although there was some discussion with regard to the extent of next season’s programme. This issue will receive further attention over the summer. Once the formal part of the meeting was over, Roy Castle entertained … Continue reading Dutch Flower Trade & AGM
On the evening of the 14th April we were entertained by the illusionist Mr Steve Price. Steve’s genial personality never seemed to be strained during a baffling series of tricks and illusions. It was a most enjoyable evening. … Continue reading Just an Illusion?
At our regular meeting in March, we were entertained by Mr Wally Ross-Gower who gave us an illuminating talk on some of the eccentric and, occasionally, villainous characters who had associations with the borough of Croydon. Defying superstition, the evening of Friday 13th March was the time of our annual visit from the South London … Continue reading Croydon’s rogues and eccentrics
Recently the committee of the Men’s Fellowship have been giving its future format much thought.
While there is no intention of disbanding the Fellowship, it is felt that we no longer have sufficient resources to continue with regular monthly meetings particularly in view of increasing difficulties in obtaining high quality speakers. It is, however, anticipated that a reduced programme of events and, possibly, outings will be continued with.
