Friday 28th September in the James Todd room
10.30 am – 12 noon
We will be joining with many other groups around the country in the world.
Please support this with us and come if you can.
Our Harvest Festival will be celebrated on Sunday 30th September. We have our Family and Parade Service at 10.30am followed by our Harvest Lunch. Tickets for the lunch are available from Sue Beynon and Dawn Neighbour (see page 20). Many thanks to Sue and her team for organising the food.
We are very grateful to Sally Richards and her team who once again will be decorating the church for harvest.
In the evening at 6.30 pm we hold our traditional service of “Harvest Praise.” This is a joyful service of Harvest Hymns and Readings with Anthems led by Ian, our organist, and the Choir.
Gifts of non-perishable foodstuffs will be gratefully received at the morning service. These will be given to the food bank run by the Salvation Army in New Addington.
Harvest is also the time when we support the work of Christian Aid through our “Commitment for Life” appeal. Please remember to bring your envelope.
“Let us not grow weary in doing good, for at the proper time we shall reap a harvest if we do not give up.” (Galatians 6:9)

As you will have seen from recent church magazine articles Marion and I are planning to lead a party to see the famous Passion Play in Oberammergau in the summer of 2020. This is organised by McCabe’s Pilgrimages with whom we have travelled many times in the past. The dates of our visit are 31st July—7th August 2020. The play has been performed every 10 years by the people of this small German town since 1634 in gratitude for their deliverance from the plague which devastated Europe at the time.
Our trip will include 5 days in the Austrian Tyrol prior to the climax of our journey – the Passion Play. We will spend the final two nights in Oberammergau itself. We shall be visiting among other places, the beautiful city of Salzburg made famous by its associations with Mozart and “The Sound of Music.” We shall also be visiting Berchtesgaden set in one of the most scenic parts of the Bavarian Alps where Hitler had his mountain retreat – the Berghof (Eagle’s nest). The brochures and booking forms giving full details are now available from Marion or myself. Unfortunately this trip is now full.
If you have any questions please do speak to Marion or myself.
Beginning of 2018: Start sales of packages *
Ash Wednesday 2019: The “Hair Decree” – from this date on all the men in Oberammergau taking part in the play are requested to let the hair on their heads and faces grow *
April 2019: Leading actors are chosen for the play
* May – September 2020: The 42nd Passion Play takes place
10.30am Family Service
6.30pm Songs of Praise Service
On the evening of 12th August we shall be holding another of our popular “Songs of Praise” services.
This advance notice is just to advise you of the date and to invite you to choose a hymn you would like included in the service. If you wish to say in the service why the hymn you have chosen is a particular favourite that would be good but not compulsory!!
Please let me have your hymn choices by Sunday 5th August.
